Congressional Petition

Dear Colleagues and Supporters of Lori:

Our congresswoman, Representative Carolyn Maloney, has been circulating a "Dear Colleague" letter to members of Congress (URGENT APPEAL FOR JUSTICE FOR LORI BERENSON). This letter, which will be sent to Peruvian President Fujimori, calls upon him to give Lori a fair trial in a civilian court.

Please call or write to your congressional representative and request that he/she sign Representative Maloney's letter endorsing "due process" for Lori.

If your congressional representative has already signed, you may wish to inform him/her that you support that action. As of February 13th, the following members of Congress had signed Representative Maloney's letter:

In addition, Representative Joseph Kennedy of Massachusetts has had several correspondences with Peruvian Ambassador Ricardo Luna, strongly urging the change to a civilian court with due process. Those of you in the state of Massachusetts might wish to thank him for his continued strong support.

Again thanking you for your help on behalf of Lori,

Rhoda and Mark Berenson

The following is a sample letter to your representative:

Dear Congress___ _________________:

I continue to be concerned about the plight of an American woman, Lori Berenson, who has been imprisoned for life in Perú after a secret trial with no due process.

I have been informed that Representative Carolyn Maloney of New York has been circulating a "Dear Colleague" letter (URGENT APPEAL FOR JUSTICE FOR LORI BERENSON) to members of Congress. I strongly urge you to sign this letter to Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, calling upon him to give Ms. Berenson a fair trial in a civilian court where evidence is open to scrutiny and where she will have an ability to defend herself.

Sincerely,
