Media specialist blasts CBS "48 Hours" for biased presentation on Lori

Danny Schechter, an award-winning media specialist known as the "news dissector," has written a strong rebuke of the "48 Hours" program shown on CBS on October 19. His article, "Convicted By An Image," appears on www.Mediachannel.org and is a scathing critique of the biased presentation. Attached to the article are several important visual and audio links along with other printed links.

CBS has sent us a 47-page transcription of the full interview Peter Van Sant held with Lori on October 12. According to CBS, "this is copyrighted material belonging to CBS News; dissemination of any portion of it outside her defense in Peru is not authorized." CBS officials have told us that they are considering putting the entire transcription on their web site. We hope they do this. Having read this transcription, in our opinion CBS cut, spliced, edited, and juxtaposed Van Sant's questions and Lori's responses to create an "interview" far different from what actually took place.
